What to Expect

These outings are designed to feel like learning and discovery at the same time.

  • JULY 11, 2026 Dockside learning aboard the historic Western Flyer (Moss Landing)
  • 2nd OUTING: On-the-water Elkhorn Slough experience with naturalists
  • 3rd OUTING: Tidepool and shoreline learning experiences
  • 4th OUTING: Coastal camping experience with local stewards and cultural knowledge holders

All locations and activities are planned within Monterey Bay and partner-managed sites. Specific dates, cohort structure, and final trip elements will be posted when confirmed.

HOW THIS SUPPORTS FUTURE YOUTH LEADERS

These outings give youth repeated chances to practice leadership in real settings. That includes helping the group stay ready, tracking time and materials, participating in safety routines, asking strong questions, and sharing observations.

Youth also get exposure to real-world roles connected to coast and watershed health, including naturalists, restoration staff, educators, and Indigenous-led partners. These experiences can spark curiosity about future paths in stewardship, environmental science, education, and community leadership.

For Indigenous youth and families who choose to engage that way, outings can also support curiosity about their own roots through culturally grounded learning and respectful opportunities to learn from Indigenous-led partners.
