Child and adults working with soil and tools during Indigenous land stewardship in a forest clearing

Indigenous Fire & Land Stewardship

Reviving cultural fire, restoring relationship, and reconnecting with the land.

Youth and adults move soil with shovels and a wheelbarrow during an Indigenous land care activity.

WHAT INDIGENOUS STEWARDSHIP LOOKS LIKE

We’re not just clearing brush—we’re teaching young people how to care for the land the way our ancestors did. Cultural burning, TEK, and healing all come together in this work.

We thin overgrowth, tend native plants, hold circle, and light fire with intention. This is restoration guided by responsibility and tradition.

👣 Community Healing

Ceremonies, gatherings, and intergenerational learning

Fire stewardship isn’t just about prevention—it’s about possibility. By training Indigenous community members in ecological restoration and cultural burning, we’re creating local jobs with purpose. These skills—fire management, chainsaw operation, native plant care—are transferable, empowering participants to lead in environmental work, public land restoration, and community safety efforts.

Training Site Collaboration at Four Corners Ranch
In partnership with the California Conservation Corps (CCC), we’re preparing the land for future Indigenous fire crew training. These early-stage fuel reduction efforts are helping shape the site into a living classroom—where TEK-based stewardship and wildfire resilience will come together.

Where This Happens

San Gregorio Creek, traditionally called Zucigim Village in San Gregorio, is being rematriated by the Confederation of Ohlone People (CoOP).  We’re honored to collaborate with CoOP in restoring plant life and creating safe access to the nearby creek. We follow traditional Indigenous practices out of respect for the Ohlone village that once stood here and disappeared during the mission era of the 1700s.

We’ve created a restoration site at Four Corners Ranch in Santa Clara County—an 80-acre, privately held Indigenous-owned site where training, ceremony, and youth leadership come together.

We’re also engaged in other Indigenous spaces across the region. This is land rematriation in action.

Families and youth engage in creek-based TEK learning and cultural revitalization through ceremony.

Water, Land, and Story: Being in Right Relationship

Families come together to tend to the land and water. These shared moments—children exploring creek life, elders guiding with care—represent a living form of stewardship grounded in Indigenous values.

This Is More Than a Program

It’s a return—to land, to memory, to responsibility. Join us in restoring relationship through Indigenous-led fire and land care.

“You can help bring this vision to life.”
